Cookies Policy

1. What Is a Cookie?#

A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your browser. Cookies let the site remember your preferences, keep you signed in, and measure how the site is performing. Some cookies last only for the duration of your visit (session cookies); others remain on your device for a defined period (persistent cookies).

Related technologies — local storage, IndexedDB, web beacons (1×1 pixel images), and the NexusMotive first-party analytics pixel — perform similar functions. We refer to all of these collectively as "cookies" in this policy.

2. Categories of Cookies#

NexusMotive groups cookies into four categories that mirror the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework categories most U.S. consumers recognize:

• Strictly necessary — required for the site to function. Examples: session identifier, CSRF token, load-balancer affinity. Cannot be disabled because the site would not work without them.
• Functional — remember your choices to improve your experience. Examples: language preference, recently-viewed vehicles, comparison list, finance-calculator inputs.
• Analytics — measure how the site is used so we can improve it. Examples: NexusMotive first-party analytics pixel, page-view event ID, scroll-depth event.
• Marketing / advertising — power the dealer's ad measurement and audience activation. Examples: Google Ads conversion linker, Meta CAPI deduplication ID, NexusID.

3. Cookies We Use#

The most common cookies set by the NexusMotive platform and dealer websites are listed below. The list is representative, not exhaustive — third-party integrations enabled by a particular dealer may add additional cookies, which the dealer's consent banner will disclose.

• nx_session — Strictly necessary. Session ID for signed-in admin users. Session-only.
• nx_csrf — Strictly necessary. CSRF defense token. Session-only.
• NEXT_LOCALE — Functional. Stores the visitor's selected language. 12 months.
• nx_pref_compare — Functional. Vehicles the visitor added to the comparison tool. 90 days.
• nx_pref_recent — Functional. Recently viewed vehicle IDs. 30 days.
• nx_nid — Analytics. First-party NexusID identifier used for measurement and attribution. 24 months, rolling.
• nx_anon — Analytics. Pseudonymous device identifier before a NexusID is assigned. 13 months.
• _ga / _ga_* — Analytics. Google Analytics 4 client ID and session counter, only if the dealer has enabled GA4. 13 months.
• _gcl_au — Marketing. Google Ads conversion linker, only if the dealer has enabled Google Ads measurement. 90 days.
• _fbp — Marketing. Meta Pixel browser ID, only if the dealer has enabled Meta advertising. 90 days.

4. Consent and Choice#

Strictly necessary cookies are set on first visit and do not require consent because the site cannot operate without them.

On dealer sites that have enabled the optional consent banner, marketing and analytics cookies are not set until the visitor opts in. The visitor can change the choice at any time using the "Cookie Preferences" link in the site footer.

You can also control cookies at the browser level — most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will break core site features.

5. Do-Not-Track and Global Privacy Control#

NexusMotive honors Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as a valid opt-out of "sale" or "sharing" under the CCPA, as required by 11 CCR §7025. When the platform detects a GPC header, we set an opt-out flag for the visitor that disables marketing-category cookies and suppresses outbound NexusID forwarding to ad platforms.

Industry-standard "Do Not Track" browser headers are not consistently defined and most browsers no longer ship them; GPC is the supported mechanism.

6. Changes to This Policy#

We may update this Cookies Policy as the cookies in use evolve. Material changes will be reflected in an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where required, surfaced through the consent banner.
